Introducing Radioactive PR newbie… Toby Aiken.
Place of birth: Barnstaple
Did you go to uni? If not, what was your route into PR? I did go to Uni, but I studied Environmental Science… so not your normal route into PR! After working in comms for a climate change research organisation I got into my first PR agency by responding to a tweet from (now-fellow) Radioactive PR account director Angharad!
Favourite film? It has to be Star Wars – any film from the Star Wars universe… with the possible exception of Phantom Menace.
Favourite site to waste time on? I read a lot of news from LinkedIn and find some really interesting stuff on Flipboard too – I love reading about the latest tech developments and anything AI related.
Why PR? For me working with clients to deliver results – whether that’s raising awareness of their brand, their work or increasing traffic to their website – whatever it is they want to achieve, creating strategies to help deliver that is something that I simply love.
Dream client? I enjoy working with such a range of clients that this is a really hard question. Given my love of all things automotive, it would probably have to be either a truly great manufacturer like McLaren or Tesla.
Tell us three interesting facts about you:
- I write motoring reviews in my spare time, so I get to drive some awesome cars including Aston Martin, Bugatti and Jaguars. A few months back, I drove more than a million pounds worth of Rolls Royce cars before midday. That was a good day…!
- I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie – I’ve jumped out of a plane, so am trying to figure out what’s next.
- I used to travel a lot for work (it’s not as exciting as it sounds) and flew more than 25,000 miles in my first year working in climate change research… and yes, I appreciate the irony of that statement.
Describe yourself in a few sentences
A hockey-playing adrenaline junkie who loves technology, Lego, my two beautiful children (and my wife, obviously) who writes and does PR… stuff. A self-confessed petrol head who can never decide on his ultimate five-car garage, other than the fact it would include a Tesla.
